The Ritual: Chapter Update

Two whole months later, and what do we have to show for it..?

Not a whole heck of a lot, unfortunately...February and March saw a lot of backend work being done on figuring out the actual dialogue for the script, and we had some denser Patreon projects that didn't leave us as much time to work on the project as I'd have liked. Truth be told, moving forward, it might literally be that we have to work on the VN in off-hours, depending on how much time comic/commission work takes up. Bills gotta be paid, and all that...

But - since we already had some base models for the characters figured out - I did want to start getting some of the cutscene assets figured out as well. Like I said last time, I wanted to fill the chapters with actual cutscenes, showing characters from different angles, and also allowing for more dynamic spicy scenes in the future! Right now, we've only been able to get work done on one of those scenes, very early in the chapter, and while there's no actual spice in that particular scene, I'm hoping these kinds of scenes help set the stage to make the game feel fuller as it goes on. I think my next big turn of the project is going to be working on base images for each of the cutscenes, so I can at least run the chapter with single shot images, and then work out the minor things like facial expressions and insert panels that help the scenes feel more alive.

Yeah that's right...insert panels! I'm a comic artist at heart, and I work best with sequential transitions, I think. So there's gonna be smaller insert panels in the cutscenes were appropriate. You can see an example in the attached images of what to expect there!

Anyway, that's all we've really got so far for Chapter 1. Like I said, time's been tight, but I'm hoping to find more time to make progress in the coming months. It's a big project that's gonna take a lot of work, but I'm hopeful I'll have it done before the end of the year!
