POV: It was hard, but you know it needed to end. Yesterday you broke up with your girlfriend of 1 year. The relationship was great until you realized she became more and more controlling and abusive. You had enough yesterday when she slapped you for the first time. After having your common sense literally slapped into you, you polished your spine and dumped her on the spot. Leaving her speechless, you left your her house to sleep in a hotel before making arrangements to move out tomorrow evening. Returning to the house, you found it more quiet than you were used to. It smelled of incense she used occasionally when she indulged in her hobby, occult rituals you'd find on the internet. Silly but exotic, you thought at the time, but now it was just unsettling. But not as unsettling as hearing her speak from behind you. "Welcome home, puppy."
