BKS Script Reviewer, Part-Time Role Overview

The role

A Script Reviewer is a core quality-check position within BKS's editorial pipeline. Reviewers receive scripts after the Head of Writing completes a developmental review and the writer has implemented a first revision pass.

At that stage, the structural and developmental work is done. The reviewer's job is to assess whether the script is performing at the level BKS requires before it moves to being recorded by the voice actor.

This is not a developmental role. Reviewers are not troubleshooting problems or reworking scripts. They are evaluating a revised draft from the listener's seat.

Reviewers assess things like:

Does the script fulfil its emotional contract? Does it make the listener feel what it set out to make them feel?

Is the listener active throughout, or is the script talking at them rather than to them?

Does the SFW section carry its own emotional arc, or does it function only as setup for sex?

Are the performance cues clear and purposeful?

Who we're looking for

Someone with a genuine writing or editorial background who is also an active, engaged listener and fan of BKS.

Familiarity with Trello, Google Docs and Discord is required. 

Reviewers should ideally be able to handle multiple scripts per week and return each review within 3 working days of receipt. Volume will vary by production cycle, but fairly consistent availability is essential for keeping the pipeline moving.

We're looking for people who have impeccable 'feel' and taste for what a great BKS script looks like!

Additionally, we're seeking people who like taking creative risks.

The application has two parts:

Part one: Tell us about yourself

Send a short note, no more than 300 words, covering your writing or editorial background, your relationship with BKS's content, and why this role appeals to you. We're not looking for a formal cover letter. We're looking for a sense of how you think and what you notice.

Part two: A short review exercise

We'll send you a script excerpt along with a brief orientation to our review format. You'll have three working days to return a set of comments in that format. We're not evaluating whether your notes match ours. We're evaluating how you read, whether your instincts are grounded in the listener experience, and whether you can express a craft observation specifically and usefully.

What happens next

Promising applicants will have a short conversation with our Head of Writing before any final decisions are made. Depending on time zones, this conversation can happen via Google Meet or via email.
