The Ritual: Chapter Update (June)

Another month, and did we get any more work done on The Ritual..?

Well...kinda.

In spite of May being a pretty open month to tackle more Ritual work, IRL obligations kinda got in the way and didn't really give us more than maybe 2-3 days to get work done, so we had to work mostly with what we had. That said, some things absolutely did get done, so let's go over 'em!

Script: This is unfortunately where the progress has hit a stalemate. While writing comics typically isn't a terribly draining process (1 page per week), writing entire scenes of dialogue for a visual novel is way more work. Like, leaps and bounds more work. Sometimes you get to the end of the scene and realize after re-reading, there's an error that screws the whole flow up, and you have to rewrite it all over again. Not to mention writing directly into Atom is a pain in the ass. If anyone knows a smoother way to write dialogue out and copy-paste it into Atom without formatting issues, I'm all ears.

Art: This is definitely where we made the most progress this month. Assets for the "paper dolls" is complete! (You can check out samples of Murk and Lorelie below) Now all that should be left to tackle is the cutscenes, of which there are many. I'm currently experimenting with making more out of the work I've finished through compositing and PS effects. You can see a few of the samples down below! The two big hurdles are going to be the spicy scenes, which we have started working on (at least the first one), but sadly nothing to show on that front yet, hopefully there'll be at least one set of spicy scene bits to show off next month!

That's all we've got for now. Plenty left to do, but I'm still confident that we'll be able to have it done before the end of the year! Stay tuned!
