Another few weeks of work accomplished on The Ritual, what do we have to show for it..?
Time was split about 50/50 between script-writing and character assets.
Script: I'd say we're about 50% of the way through the script, since I've finished 3 of the 8 scenes, and am almost done writing the 4th (You'd honestly be surprised how much putting one scene together makes you rethink how you wrote every scene prior...) BUT, the story largely remains intact, at least, the new version of it we wrote for this re-imagining. Dialogue choices will actually impact how characters interact with you in nearly every scene thereafter, and pulling off that endeavor can be...tedious, but I'm really confident in the results!
Art: The biggest hurdle to jump over right now is the assets for the dialogue versions of the characters, what you might call the "paper dolls". I'm giving each of them lots of facial expressions, but I also want to give them some body expressions to, so you actually, y'know...notice when a character's expression is changing. Facial expressions definitely take less time to create, but they tend to go largely unnoticed. This is because they operate on the top-third of the screen, while the text scroll takes up the bottom-third. My hope is that the body art makes it more obvious, but only time will tell! In the meantime, here's a few samplers of what we've worked on so far!
That's all we've got for this month. Plenty left to do, but I'm much more confident now that we'll be able to have it done before the end of the year! Stay tuned!
Cheers for now!
