Early Access Opinions

Published 09/25/2021, 11:11:20 PM

First things first, I mentioned in yesterday's post about changing my Friday schedule, and I have decided that 4PM is a good time. All this means is that I will be uploading 4 hours later on Fridays, at 4PM instead of 12PM, and nothing else will be affected.

Besides that, I've been thinking about how I handle early releases. Currently my Patreon releases 10 pages ahead of the public releases. I've been thinking that this feels a bit excessive. There are a few practical issues I commonly see related to this, but a big one is that some scenes are almost over by the time public releases begin. This is why I always released covers right away, and the following pages on delay, but with longer ongoing comics this isn't a practical solution.

Another practical issue is that I announce my early access and public updates in the same Discord server. To streamline my upload process I announce the two updates at the same time, but I find that a 10 week gap puts too big of a disconnect between these followings.

Then the more personal reason is that I prefer to use these platforms for followers to support my work if they like it, and not to use it as a form of paywall for access. This is obviously countered by the fact that I still want some kind of perk for people willing to support me, so of course early access will remain in some form.

The purpose of this post is to get your opinions in regards to this. Below is a poll with a list of options. The first three options are about the value of early access, and the last 4 are which options you think are best for the extent of early access. You may select any number of options, so you can pick any number of statements you agree with.
